Occupational Therapy Consulting Services:

Work Station Evaluation -
Generally done in response to physical symptoms identified by an employee or requested by a physician who feels the person’s symptoms are a result of their work station set up. The therapist would evaluate the person at their place of employment where they could observe the individual performing his or her job duties, determine if improvements or modifications can be made to the work station or the method that the employee is using to decrease pain/symptoms, communicate the recommendations to the appropriate people and provide documentation of the findings and recommendations.

Job Analysis - In this situation the therapist would analyze the job in order to identify the essential functions of the job, provide a listing of the individual components of the tasks, provide specific measurements (force, weight, height, repetition, etc.), list equipment used and also identify environmental factors. Recommendations can also be made for modifications to the job.

Video Tape Job Analysis - A job analysis process as listed above, includes a video tape of the essential functions of the job and the work environment. These video tapes can be edited to provide a concise picture of the job in order for a physician to review if necessary. Analysis from the video tape is often helpful in determining whether a job is repetitive or if it may have contributed to the reported symptoms.

Ergonomic Education to Individuals or Groups - Instruction provided in a group setting to teach principles of ergonomics. This is often helpful in a large office setting where several work stations will be assessed. Beyond work station positioning and ergonomics we can also address body mechanics, back positioning, proper lifting techniques and patient transfers depending on the request.
